Miss Summerton Completes
University Library Service

3 completed more than five
years of service to the Univer
sity when she withdrew as act
ing head librarian of Vernier
iRadcliff e Memorial Library.
She will be married to Ray
mond Neilsen, of Idaho, April
19 in the chapel of Kate Lind-say
Hall. The couple will make
their home in Idaho.
| Miss Summerton joined the
library staff in 1958 after serv
ing as assistant librarian at
Walla Walla College, College
Place, Washington, for ten
! years. She has been also an
elementary school teacher in
Superior, Wisconsin, and was
registrar and librarian at
Broadview Academy, which was
then located in LaGrange, Illi
nois.
A graduate of Emmanuel
Missionary College, Berrien
Springs, Michigan, Miss Sum
merton also attended the Uni
versity of Illinois, Urbana,
where she received a Master's
degree in library science.
She holds memberships in the
American Library Association,
the Medical Library Group fur
Southern California, the Cali
fornia Library Association and
the Christian Librarian's Asso
ciation.
Keld J. Reynolds, vice presi
dent for academic affairs, in
commenting on Miss Summer-ton's
service to the University,
said, " While we wish her well
m her new role, we will miss

Therapists Pass
Registry Exam
Four 1963 graduates in the
Occupational Therapy Curric
ulum have passed the national
registry examination which was
administered in January.
They are Mary C. Fender,
Diana R. Lopez, Leona O. S.
Park and Patricia A. Turner.
Other members of the class
who have not yet completed
internships will be eligible to
take the test in June.
Mrs. Fender is employed at
the Portland ( Oregon) Sani
tarium and Hospital, Miss Lo
pez at a cerebral palsy school
in northern California, Miss
Park in the psychiatric unit at
Glendale Sanitarium and Hos
pital, and Miss Turner at Los
Angeles County General Hos
pital.

Meet With Council
Representatives of the Uni
versity last week at a meeting
of the California Council on
the Education of Teachers
were Keld J. Reynolds, PhD,
vice president for academic af
fairs, and Thomas A. Little,
PhD, dean of the Graduate
School.
The council, which met in
Santa Barbara, California, in
cludes representatives from 47
accredited colleges and univer
sities and 19 professional and
lay associations.

interchange.

Tickets Available
For Talent Show
Tickets for a talent show
sponsored by the junior class
in the School of Physical Ther
apy to be May 9 are now avail
able. The date first set was
April 18, but was changed be
cause of conflict with one- day
campmeeting.
Tickets may be purchased for
95 cents each at the School of
Physical Therapy, Kate Lind-say
Hall, Daniells Hall, the
University Pharmacy and at
the Harris Company in San
Bernardino and Riverside.
Twenty- five students from
various schools of the Univer
sity will participate in the two
and one^- half hour show, which
will be in Landis Auditorium,
Riverside. There also will be
entertainment during intermis
sion.
After 45 years in higher ed
ucation, Dr. Keld John Rey
nolds, vice president for aca
demic affairs at Loma Linda
University has decided to seek
retirement, which will be- effec
tive July 1. He has served the
University since November
1954, as dean of the faculties, a
title that later became vice
president for academic affairs.
Dr. Reynold's announcement
of his retirement was followed
by the appointment of Robert
E. Cleveland, PhD, at present
the academic dean of Atlantic
Union College in South Lan
caster, Massachusetts. A bio
graphical sketch of the new
vice president will appear in
next issue of University SCOPE.
Dr. Reynolds began his edu
cational career in the fall of
1919 when he accepted a call
to teach at Hutchinson Theol
ogical Seminary, Hutchinson,
Minnesota.
A native of Copenhagen,
Denmark ( where he was born
March 7, 1897), Dr. Reynolds
can look back on years of
growth in denominational high
er education. He received his
secondary and college educa
tion in Seventh- day Adventist
schools and worked a lifetime
to enrich programs of higher
learning within the church.
Godfrey T. Anderson, PhD,
president of Loma Linda Uni
versity, in announcing Dr. Rey
nold's retirement, expressed
deep appreciation for the years
he had given the University, as
dean of the faculties of the
College of Medical Evangelists
in 1954 and as vice president
for academic affairs, when the
title was changed in 1958.
Dr. Anderson spoke with high
regard of his colleague, who had
stood by him since 1954, when
both were appointed to their
present positions. During the
ten years at Loma Linda, Dr.
Reynolds has witnessed a steady
growth in educational facilities
and in the academic structure
of the University.
The University has added the
Graduate School ( established
in 1954), the Dental Hygiene
Curriculum ( 1959), Occupation
al Therapy Curriculum ( 1959),
