Charles T. Smith, dean of the
School of Dentistry, on new
developments in the school, and
by Alumni Association Secre
tary Odell on highlights of the
group's activities during the
past year. They included the
establishment of a student loan
fund, a mission committee and
provision for a dental hygiene
representative on the board.
Dr. Odell also announced that
the association's annual lunch
eon during the Southern Cali
fornia State Dental Association
Convention would be May 4 in
the Holland House, Los An
geles, at 12: 15 p. m.
Outgoing association Presi
dent Clifford E. Vixie, SD' 57,
presented a check to Viola
Lutz. Alumni Federation exec
utive secretary, for her work
with the association, especially
in preparing for and during the
convention.
Dr. Vixie received a plaque
from the association in recog
nition of his work as president
during the 1963- 64 year.
George Summers to Head LLU
Library; Summerton to Resign
A new head librarian for
Vernier Radcliffe Memorial Li
brary will assume his respon
sibilities at the University July
1.
George V. Summers, 35, will
replace Ellenor M. Summerton,
who will resign as acting li
brarian to take up other duties.
A teacher and librarian in
Seventh- day Adventist schools
since 1951, Mr. Summers pre
sently is librarian at Blue
Mountain Academy, Hamburg,
Pennsylvania.
He received a Master's de
gree in library science in 1963
from the Drexel Institute in
Philadelphia, said to be one of
the leading library schools in
the east.
In addition he now is taking
course work for certification as
a medical librarian and has
nearly completed work toward
a Master of Arts degree in Eng
lish at the University of Mary-

Mr. Summers graduated in
1951 from Columbia Union Col
lege, Washington, DC, with a
major in English.
He and his wife, Joan, have
two children, Barbara, 7, and
Linda, 5.
University Appoints
Manuel to Position
The University has appointed
Robert G. Manuel to the posi
tion of director of student aid
and finance. He comes to Loma
Linda from Los Angeles where
he was assistant administrator
at the White Memorial Medical
Center.
Mr. Manuel also has served
as assistant hospital adminis
trator in Denver, Colorado, and
as administrator at a New Eng
land hospital.
He was born in Cambridge,
Massachusetts, and attended
Boston University.
Class To Conduct
Auditions in LL
For Talent Program
The junior class in the
School of Physical Therapy
will conduct auditions March
2 to 10 for a benefit talent pro
gram at which $ 200 in cash
prizes will be awarded.
Auditions will be from 7 to 10
p. m. Acceptable acts for the
program include comical or se
rious skits, pantomimes, musi
cal selections or readings. Not
only students but also the en
tire community is eligible to
participate in the program, at
which both group and solo per
formances may be given.
The program will be April 18
in Burden Hall.
Proceeds will be used for the
junior class budget, from which
the class will purchase a gift
for the school.
Chairman of the program is
Jim L. Armstrong, PT65.
405 Alumni Meet
For Lunch Here
Alumni and faculty of the
School of Dentistry with their
wives dined February 22 in the
Loma Linda cafeteria after
church services.
Present at the informal gath
ering were 405 persons repre
senting 130 alumni families.
At an afternoon meeting of
interested dentists and their
wives A. Graham Maxwell,
PhD, director of the Division of
Religion, conducted an informal
discussion on effective ways of
sharing faith in the office and
community.

Alumni Auxiliary to Convene
For National Meet in LA
Over 500 women representing
50 chapters of the Woman's
Auxiliary to the Alumni Asso
ciation, School of Medicine, will
gather for a three- day conven
tion opening March 9 at the
Ambassador Hotel, Los An
geles.
Theme for the convention
will be " Keys to Adventure
Through Self Expression in
Fields of Art, Music, and Cre
ativity."
On the first day the women
will travel to Buena Park for a
tour of the Wax Museum and
lunch at Knotts Berry Farm.
Highlight of the convention
will be the homecoming lunch'
eon on March' 10 in the Em
bassy Room of the hotel with
Mrs. Robert R. Torrey, presi
dent, presiding. Mrs. Carl F.
Ekstrom, program chairman,
will present William Parker,
PhD, professor of speech at the
University of Redlands, whose
subject will be " Keys of Com
munication Through Under
standing."
Music, for the occasion will
feature Keith Wyatt, tenor so
loist. Decorations are under
the direction of Mrs. G. Carle-ton
Wallace, and will carry out
an international theme in flags
and flowers. She will be as
sisted by members of the Glen-dale
chapter. Hostesses will be
past presidents of the organiza
tion with Mrs. Orlyn B. Pratt
in charge.
The morning of March 11
will be devoted to " Self Ex
pression Through Art" with
Sune Richard lecturing on
" Paul and His People" illus
trated with her original paint
ings on the subject.
Luncheon music will be fur
nished by the Pico- Rivera High
School 120- voice " Don" Choir
and Choraliers which were fea
tured recently on television in
" Teacher 62" and " Assignment
Education."
" Keys to Adventure in Cre
ativity Through Handicrafts"
will be the theme for the after
noon when the Spinnerin Yarn
Company will present a fashion
show of hand- knit garments
modeled by auxiliary members.
The show will be followed by a
" Knitting Clinic" with practi
cal points on assembling, block
ing, cleaning and general care
of hand- knit articles.
In the evening at 6: 30 p. m.
the women will join their hus
bands for the annual alumni
banquet in the Biltmore Bowl.
Featured speaker will be Dr.
Edward R. Annis, president of
the American Medical Associa
tion and of the World Medical
Association.
