Loma Linda University Students Honored,
Receive President's Award Scholarships ' Mission to Heart'
" Mission to the Heart" is
the topic to be presented at
this year's School of Nursing
annual homecoming, June 2,
at 6: 30 p. m.
R. Maureen Maxwell, EdD,
SN' 43, will direct the unusual
presentation, planners state.
Alumni from far and near will
participate in the program,
which will be held in the Uni
versity Dining Hall. Registra
tion tables will be at the en
try.
Alumni Association officers
urge that reservations be sent
in early. Tickets at $ 2.75 should
be purchased at the door.
Historical Society
Slates Dr. Truman
The Loma Linda Historical
Society will meet Sunday, May
22, at 7: 30 p. m. in Cutler Hall
on the University campus.

count early community and Uni
versity history from the 12
years he was connected with the
School of Medicine and the San
itarium and Hospital, 1909- 21.
A tour of the historical area
of Vernier Radcliff Memorial
Library will conclude. this final
meeting of the school year.

Guided Tram- Tours Ottered
During Graduation Weekend
Commencement weekend visitors to Loma Linda University,
may tour the campus by tram Sunday, June 5. Scheduled for
9 a. m. to 2 p. m,, the tram rides will include stops for guided
tours through the new medical center and biochemistry building.

to Santa Catalina Island last

Some 70 class members,
wives, dates, and class sponsor

chartered boat to the island 26
miles off the California coast.

dent; Craigan L. Gray, vice
president; and Anita I. Lenz,
secretary- treasurer.

Seven persons have been hon
ored as associates in the 61-
year history of the University.
Two Los Angeles brothers,
Stanley S. and Milton Slotkin,
were recently honored for " their
donation to the University lib
rary of 60,000 new and used
books valued at $ 125,000.
Their gift last year was re
portedly the largest book col
lection ever given to a library.

Music Fest Adds
La Sierra Strings
The La Sierra College String
Ensemble under the direction of
Alfred Walters will present six
numbers in a sacred concert
Sabbath May 21, 4: 30 p. m., in
the University Church.
The program is in addition
to others previously announced
for the Spring Music Festival,
according to Patrick H. Hicks,
festival director.
The other selections of the
weekend include a Friday night
rendition of A German Requiem,
by Johannes Brahms, and a Sat
urday night combined Univer
sity Chorale and Band concert.

Elected to LL Service Council
Two Loma Linda University staff members will head the
newly- organized Loma Linda Community Service Council.
Oliver L. Jacques, director of university relations, has been

stalled in office at the organi
zational meeting of the council
April 21 at the Victoria School.
Also elected were secretary,
Charles Turner, Victoria School
principal, and treasurer, Vernon
Blaney, Security First National
Bank. .
The purpose of the council is
to insure a planned, coordin
ated, and efficient program of
health, welfare, and recre
ation services for the whole
community.
Council membership is offered
to Loma Linda residents who
agree with the council's objec
tives, and to community schools,
churches, social and civic
groups, and service agencies,
represented by delegates.
University personnel named
as delegates to the service

President's Awards were
given to five Loma Linda
University students last
week in the annual presen
tation at the last Monday
morning convocation of the
school year.
The honored students, who
each represent a major school
in the University, are Aubrey
W. Boyd, PT' 66; Dynnette E.
Nelson, SN' 66; M. Joyce Ram
say, Graduate School microbi
ology student; Frederick C.
Saunders, SM' 66; and James R.
Wise, SD' 67.
The award, given in recogni
tion of superior scholarship,
participation in student affairs,
and Christian commitment,
consists of a certificate ' of
merit and a scholarship. Vary
ing tuition costs determine the
scholarship amounts, $ 500 for
medical and dental students,
and $ 300 for Graduate School,
nursing, and physical therapy
students.
School of Health- Related
Professions
Mr. Boyd, a native of Hous
ton, Texas, took his pre- pro-fessional
study at San Bernar-dino
Valley College. He was in
troduced at the award presen
tation by Ivor C. Woodward,
dean of the School of Health-
Related Professions. The newly-created
school consolidates the
health science programs of
physical therapy, occupational
therapy, medical record admin
istration, medical technology,
and radiologic technology.
School of Nursing
Maxine Atteberry, dean of
the School of Nursing, intro
duced Miss Nelson, a native of
Pomona who attended La Sier
ra College before entering the
School of Nursing.
Graduate School
Miss Ramsay, who was pre
sented by J. Paul Stauffer,
PhD, dean of the Graduate
School, was born in Phoenix,
Arizona. She graduated from
San Jose State College with a
bachelor of arts degree.
School of Medicine
Dean of the School of Med
icine, David B. Hinshaw, MD,
introduced Mr. Saunders, a na
tive of Independence, Missouri.
He received the bachelor of
arts degree in 1961 from Union
College. His wife Marsha is a
dental hygiene alumnus, class
of 1963.
School of Dentistry
Mr. Wise was born in Loma
Linda, attended Pacific Union
College and La Sierra College,
and his wife Jean is a 1964
graduate of the University's
dental hygiene program. He was
presented by Charles T. Smith,
DDS, dean of the School of
Dentistry.
